Earlier this week we introduced you to the fantastic Cycling For Rangers team. Well it seems April is the month to get adventures started as two more friends of Polaris are off to Switzerland. James Nathan and Richard Beaumont are all set to start their trip across the Alpine country, on a pair of folding bikes!
James and Richard will be cycling from Basel to Lake Como via the notorious Gotthard Pass.
We spoke to James about the trip, “We do not have a direct route planned but this is part of the fun! We aren’t using maps, but we plan to leave for Switzerland on April 14 and set off from Basel to the Gotthard Pass, one of the 15 most dangerous roads in the world. We then aim to drift down into Lake Lugano towards the end of the week.
“We’ll be riding two custom-made bikes which have been partially paid for by our sponsors Brompton. They are designed for inner city commuting and not mountains, which should definitely add to the challenge ahead.”
The pair will be raising money for Cancer Research UK and RABI, two causes close to their hearts particularly as Richard has only just overcome testicular cancer.
This isn’t the first bikepacking adventure James has undertaken. In 2013, James and another friend cycled from London to Zakynthos in Greece in less than 23 days, despite experiencing temperatures of up to 35 degrees. They raised £6,000 in the process.
There’s still time to start your own April adventure, let us know what you’re planning on our Facebook page.
